Jennifer Lawrence delivered one of the finest performances of her career in the psychological drama Die My Love. According to reports, it was Martin Scorsese who first considered her for the role after reading the book by Argentine author Ariana Haewicz.
For Lawrence, the decision was clear after she read the script. She immediately knew she wanted to play the central character. During an online roundtable, the Academy Award winner spoke to the Hindustan Times, sharing her experiences working on the film.
Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up About Her Character In Die My Love
In the widely acclaimed film, the actress essayed the role of Grace, a woman who became increasingly unmoored and volatile after giving birth. Talking about how she aced the role, Lawrence said, “It is normally about channelling adrenaline. It starts with empathy, imagining what the person is going through. Putting myself in Grace’s shoes and taking myself out.”
She added, “The great part about my job is that I get to call up these emotions and get carried away, and when they call, ‘Cut!’ none of the consequences are real! I just walk away with a little bit of a high.”
Lawrence further shared, “I definitely did know that I wanted to play Grace. The producing starts first, where we decide on things like who is going to direct this or how are we going to get this made, and then I get to do the fun part.”
Jennifer Lawrence Reveals One Scene She Will Never Forget
In one scene from Die My Love, Lawrence’s character is shown tearing apart the bathroom, scratching the painted walls, squeezing the shampoo bottle and destroying everything in sight. Her nails are broken and her fingers bleed.
Talking about the scene, the actress said, “We could do only one take of it, and the adrenaline build-up to that. The space was so small, and there was only space for me and Chris (camera operator), and it was on film. There were so many technical issues that I couldn’t not be aware of but then had to go to a different place and not be aware of any of it.”
She added, “So that is the scene I will probably remember my whole life. It was so fun to do. We might have imagined what it must be like to do it in real life, and to do it actually was great.”
