Yash is a top actor today but his journey to stardom is inspiring. Grew up in a modest middle-class family in Hassan, his father, Arun Kumar, was a driver for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and later the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
Therefore, like any other middle-class household, even Yash’s parents were initially worried about his unstable dreams of acting, but he persisted. When he left home as a teenager for drama school in Bengaluru, he wasn’t aware that his passion for acting will also meet with financial uncertainty and emotional challenges.
After facing several rejections, Yash entered the showbiz world through Kannada television serials like Uttarayana and Nanda Gokula. Despite being small roles, they helped him learn on-set techniques and earn recognition.
His film journey began with a supporting role in Jambada Hudugi (2007). Although the film did not gain attention, the experience introduced him to the realities of cinema—camera angles, retakes and the pressure to perform. Facing initial obscurity, he realised he needed sharper skills and greater visibility to succeed.
Yash’s breakthrough came with Moggina Manasu (2008), where he played a significant supporting role that won him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Yet, even after this recognition, lead roles were hard to come by. He kept auditioning and faced several rejections and challenges.
Even his first major attempt as a lead, Rocky (2008), failed at the box office. However, instead of giving up, Yash took the failure as motivation. He actively analysed audience expectations, refined his acting and remained focused on building credibility.
It was films like Kallara Santhe, Gokula and eventually Modalasala (2010) that gradually pushed him toward stardom. These projects demanded emotional depth and versatility, forcing him to stretch himself as an actor. With these films, Yash slowly became a household name.
But it was the mega-success of KGF that changed it all. The film showcased his intense screen presence, rugged charisma, and powerful emotional depth, turning him into a pan-Indian star. While KGF: Chapter 1 hit theatres in 2018, the sequel was released in 2022.
Now, Yash is all set to rule Bollywood. He will soon be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The actor will be playing the role of Ravana in the film, which will also star Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Ram and Sita, respectively. Ramayana is being made in two installments, the first one releasing in Diwali 2026 and the second one during Diwali 2027.
Besides Ramayana, Yash will also be seen in his much-awaited, Toxic. Jointly produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups has been directed by Geetu Mohandas. It will hit theatres March 2026.
