Priscilla Presley has shared what she believes Elvis Presley would be doing today if he were still alive.

Priscilla Presley has reflected on what life might have looked like for Elvis Presley had he been alive today. The legendary singer, who died on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42, would have turned 91 on January 8.

“I think he’d be doing the same thing in life – singing and touring. He loved it,” Priscilla, 80, told Hello! Magazine while discussing her new memoir, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.

Writing The Memoir Meant Reliving The Past

Priscilla shared that working on the book was an emotional journey that required her to revisit both joyful and painful chapters of her life.

“It took me a while to finish it up – more than 11 months,” she said. “You remember a lot of things, and it was a good thing, to be honest. A lot of remembering wonderful times and difficult times — and you’re reliving your life.”

‘We Always Remained Friendly’ After Their Divorce

The Naked Gun star also spoke about her relationship with Elvis after their separation. The couple were married from 1967 to 1973, following nearly a decade of dating, and remained close even after their divorce.

“We always remained friendly and would still get together,” she recalled. “Of course, we had our daughter [the late Lisa Marie Presley], and I would bring her to see her dad perform and made sure they spent a lot of time together. She’d spent extensive time with him at Graceland.”

“We still cared for each other,” Priscilla added. “He just had a great sense of humor and [was] fun to be with.”

On Tour With Her Book And Fans’ Curious Questions

Priscilla is currently on a global book tour for her memoir, an experience she described as overwhelmingly positive.

“I love doing it, talking about all this, sharing, and of course answering all their questions. I get some good questions!” she said.

She revealed that one fan even asked whether Elvis ever wore a toupee. “No, that’s not true; that was his beautiful hair,” she responded.

“It’s been great,” she added, listing stops including London, Paris, New York, Melbourne, Sydney, and more, while expressing hope to continue touring through 2026.

Remembering Elvis’ Death And Lasting Impact

Priscilla also recalled first meeting Elvis in 1959 while he was stationed at a military base in Germany, the same base where her father was posted.

Reflecting on the loss of the music icon years later, she described his death as surreal during a 2018 appearance on Today.

“I was still shocked. It was just too hard to believe,” she said. “Going out the gates in the limo [of Graceland] and seeing the streets lined up on both sides all the way to the cemetery… people crying, hysterical, fainting. That’s how impactful it was and still to this day.”
