Sophia Smith, the former girlfriend of the late Liam Payne, recently shared the joyous news of her engagement to James Bridgwood. Taking to Instagram, the influencer posted a heartwarming black-and-white video capturing the proposal. In the clip, Sophia appears both surprised and elated as James places the ring on her finger, while their daughter, Angelina Grace, plays adorably in the background. The romantic setting featured a floor adorned with rose petals, complemented by a bottle of champagne and two glasses. The couple, who welcomed their daughter in April 2023, celebrated this special milestone in the comfort of their home.
Although the exact timeline of their relationship is unclear, Sophia made her relationship with James official on Instagram in June 2022. A few months later, in December 2022, she announced that they were expecting their first child. Meanwhile, in the latest video shared by Sophia, she looked happy as James surprised her with an engagement ring. Their one-year-old daughter, Angelina, can be seen wandering around the room during the proposal. In the background, the influencer added an acoustic version of Anyone by Dan Berk, to make the moment even more special. In the caption, she simply wrote, “Yes a million times over. 25.12.24.”
Sophia Smith got engaged months after Liam Payne passed away at the age of 31 in October after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. Initially, Liam and Sophia were in school in Wolverhampton, England, but began dating in 2013. In 2015, Sophia and Liam decided to go separate ways for unknown reasons.
Back in 2017, Liam shedding light on his love story with Sophia told Attitude magazine, “I didn’t actually go out with her at the time. I used to see her at school and we’d kind of chat. I asked her sister for her number. She was very shy and didn’t give much indication that she liked me, so I just assumed that she wasn’t interested, as well as thinking she was way too hot for me anyway. So, I ended up going out with someone else. Then one day she saw me out in town with this other girl and she never spoke to me again. But I always thought about her, about what could have been. When I was single again, I met her at my mate’s party. I didn’t say too much to her because I was too scared to after messing things up, but we finally got talking and the rest is history.”
Months after Liam Payne’s tragic passing in Argentina, local authorities are still investigating the case. So far, three individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
