Yusuf Ibrahim has handled security for stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Ranbir Kapoor among others. In a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan, he addressed the rumours about the exorbitant salaries of Bollywood’s bodyguards. Does Shah Rukh Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Singh earn Rs 2.7 crore per year? Does Salman Khan’s bodyguard Shera make Rs 2 per annually?
When asked if Ravi Singh takes an annual salary of Rs 2.7 crore, Yusuf said, “See, I told you, we don’t come to know how much someone is earning.” He added, “Itna possible nahi hai (It’s not possible).” Yusuf said that Ravi used to work in his company earlier and since Yusuf couldn’t give all his time to Shah Rukh Khan, they put Ravi in charge of the star’s security. Ravi then left the company and took over SRK’s security. Interestingly, Yusuf started his company by taking charge of SRK’s safety.
In the same conversation, when asked about Salman Khan’s bodyguard Shera’s reported salary of Rs 2 crore per year, Yusuf said, “See, Salman Khan’s Shera has his own business, he has his own security company. I think he has multiple businesses. So it is possible that he must be earning it.”
It was also rumoured that Akshay Kumar’s bodyguard, Shreysay Thele, gets paid Rs 1.2 crore every year. Yusuf said, “I don’t have his personal information. Calculate monthly — Rs 10 to Rs 12 lakh — it is possible, not possible too. Depends on what billing is going for your shoot, events or promotions. How much is your salary? All these things factor in. How many days a month your star is working, the billing depends on that. All these figures, I feel, just chaap diya hai kisine (someone has just randomly printed these figures).”
Yusuf then mentioned that most star bodyguards get paid around Rs 25,00 to Rs 1 Lakh but the celebrities offer to take care of their necessary expenses like medical bills and children’s school fees. Yusuf has been providing security to Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan since their debut and recalled that when he had a heart attack, the actors and their teams supported him and took care of his needs.
However, Yusuf added that while bodyguards often have long-standing relationships with the stars they guard, they do not become friendly and their dynamic is strictly professional.
