Vikramaditya Motwane reveals Shah Rukh Khan’s commitment to perfection, recalling how SRK used honey to enhance a scene in Devdas.
Vikramaditya Motwane, known for his exceptional filmmaking, began his career assisting the legendary Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. While the former starred Salman Khan, the latter featured Shah Rukh Khan in a career-defining role. In a recent conversation with The Lallantop, Motwane shared an intriguing anecdote about working with SRK and highlighted the actor’s unparalleled dedication to his craft.
Calling Shah Rukh Khan “magnificent,” Motwane shared, “I will tell you one incident about the actor. We were shooting the climax of Devdas where Shah Rukh’s character dies while Aishwarya comes running to him. Shah Rukh was lying down under a tree. Suddenly, he asked one of the assistants if we could get him some honey. We were all clueless. Yet, we brought it to him. When we did, he took some of it and applied over his face.”
He continued, “He did it to get flies on his face, like flies are sitting on a dying man’s face. This was completely his idea.” Motwane explained that it is typically the director’s responsibility to think of such details, but Shah Rukh’s instinct and commitment often lead to unexpected brilliance. “The man’s mind is constantly working to think how he can make the moment better. And that is Shah Rukh Khan. He does very small things in films that make great difference. Plus, he makes everybody feel very special.”
This isn’t the first time Vikramaditya Motwane has spoken highly of SRK. At the Himalayan Film Festival, the AK vs AK director said, “Every film can’t be Jawan or Pathaan. You can’t replace SRK and that experience with some other actor, and expect same result. It’s a moment in time with SRK, and those films that’s happening.”
Shah Rukh Khan, fresh off the success of Jawan and Pathaan, is gearing up for his next film, King. Directed by Atlee, the project will also feature his daughter Suhana Khan in a lead role, marking her big-screen debut. Munjya star Abhay Verma is also rumored to join the cast. While details about the plot and release date are still under wraps, fans are eagerly anticipating SRK’s next cinematic masterpiece.
Meanwhile, Vikramaditya Motwane’s latest directorial venture, Black Warrant, recently premiered on Netflix. The filmmaker, known for his ability to bring nuanced stories to life, continues to carve a unique space in Indian cinema with his creative storytelling and sharp directorial vision.
