Days after reports of legal controversy surrounding his recent film Tere Ishk Mein, Aanand L Rai has finally addressed the issue. Eros International Media Ltd has launched a commercial intellectual property case against the filmmaker, seeking damages of Rs 84 crore for alleged violations related to Raanjhanaa. Addressing the controversy, Aanand L Rai stated that such disagreements are an unavoidable part of conducting business in the film industry.

In an interview with NDTV, Aanand L Rai responded to the lawsuit and said, “These are part of life. When you step into business, such things keep happening. I don’t even know why, how, or from where this has come. But I think it is a legal matter, so let the legal people handle it. There is a lawyer on their side, and a lawyer from here will respond too.” He added, “I don’t think it has any meaning. Anyone can say anything about anything at any time. So it’s not something to be taken too seriously. It’s more for the lawyers to deal with. Since it’s a legal matter, I won’t speak much about it, but it’s nothing serious.”

What happened between Aanand L Rai and Eros?

Eros International Media Ltd has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against Aanand L Rai and his production business, Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, according to the Times of India. In a commercial IP litigation and an associated interim application, Eros asserted trademark infringement, copyright infringement, and that the defendants purposefully marketed Tere Ishk Mein as a’spiritual sequel’ to Raanjhanaa without authorisation. Aanand L Rai’s film ‘Tere Ishk Mein’, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, was released in November 2025. Meanwhile, Aanand L Rai directed Raanjhanaa, starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, which was released in June 2013.

Tere Ishq Mein – Storyline

Tere Ishq Mein depicts the story of Shankar, a passionate and temperamental young man who falls deeply in love with Mukti. Their relationship deepens in college, but Mukti eventually decides to marry someone else. The film delves into their passionate, visceral and unpredictable world, depicting a love story that defies logic, time and fate. The film also marks Dhanush’s highly anticipated return to Hindi cinema after a long absence.
